Employee Spotlight!

WhitakerLee2006_RGB-200x300Our internal PIP newsletter, ForeSight, highlights one of our very own this week!

PIP Triad’s Business Growth Strategist, Lee Whitaker sat down with Sean Loranger recently to discuss his outlook on sales and advice for the print industry:

Keep moving. Keep learning. Keep growing. That’s the advice from Top Salesperson Lee Whitaker of Jimmy and Judy Brumley’s PIP Triad in North Carolina (Burlington, Greensboro and High Point).  Lee, who is a recipient of the Don F. Lowe Salesperson of the Year award, says succeeding in this economic environment is all about not standing still.

“Don’t just watch the economy and think you can wait it out,” he says. “You need to continue growing and learning and reaching out to businesses with the variety of services you’re able to offer.

“We’re betting that, as businesses increase their spending, they’ll need to do much more with much less and will be seeking one-stop shops where they can have all of their marketing needs addressed and met. That’s what we want to be for them.

“Yes it’s a challenging economy and it’s been tough on all industries, but we have a lot to offer in both experience and services.”

Lee says his center is working hard to “marry” new marketing services such as website, email blasts and social networking with the more traditional print offerings.

“We’ve worked hard at increasing our knowledge and abilities so we’re able to offer more services for our customers. These ‘new” services, we’re finding, are leading to the birth of new opportunities in the print arena, too. This makes for a full circle of services for our customers—and that makes us stand out from our competitors.”

Lee is also discovering that his emphasis on providing the full suite of services is resulting in more internal referrals to marketing departments within his clients’ companies. “We’re no longer just working with a project in one department but we’re able to step in and help the client’s marketing managers in reviewing the big picture for that company; we can be part of the team and help meet their goals.”

Conversations with marketing professionals mean salespeople need to know the “marketing language” and understand how the concepts work in real-world applications.

“Training from Franchise Services is vital for salespeople,” Lee says. “We’ve also created marketing case studies so our customers can see how our programs have helped other businesses succeed.”

Digital color projects and signage are easy first steps in adding new services, Lee says. “We already understand paper and we understand toner and ink. That makes signage and digital a great bridge. So many of our conversations with customers these days start with signage and advance from there.

“If you’ve already built a relationship selling print, you can expand to other areas, even if you’re in a smaller center,” Lee says.

If your center doesn’t have a capability a customer needs, find a source that does, he adds. “I’m lucky in that I’m in one of the top five centers in our network and we have a lot of in-house services we can provide. But, if you’re a salesperson in a smaller center, team up with Creative Services for websites or another supplier for signage.

“No matter how small your center is, you can provide the services that will position you as the one-stop shop for your customers.”

2013 FSI Convention

PIP Triad owners, Jimmy and Judy Brumley, had a blast at last week’s PIP International  and FSI Conventions  in Indianapolis at the Indianapolis Marriott!

Our fearless leader, Jimmy, participated in a panel discussion about signage. He told our story here at PIP Triad and discussed how we continually remind and keep our customers updated as to what we can offer and how each of our products and/or services can help their business or organization grow.

They even ran into our friends, Kate and Jason, from Creative Services!

Throughout the convention, Don Lowe, David Robidoux, and Kris Dhanam (just to name a few!) share great insight on both print and marketing industries and how the two are becoming one entity. At the show, there were 29 new vendors specializing in signage! Signage should be a major part of any companies’ Marketing Strategy… Many businesses have been relying on signage for years already: Ad Agencies, Broker Printers, Graphic Designers, Manufacturing and others. Unfortunately,  Print is currently down 1.3% and is expected to drop by 1% each year to come, UNLESS… we begin to embrace Marketing as a key point in developing more print!

Robidoux discussed the “changing world of marketing”, emphasizing that mobile is the market right now. Desktops and laptops are in double-digit decline due to the explosion of data available on mobile phones and tablets. Even QR codes are in a race to keep up as static website-linked codes are considered out of date now. Scanned codes such as QR and Digimarc should direct users to more interactive, useful, and up-to-date content such as current coupons, videos or photos… and this is something that can easily be done so long as the client has access to change the information and links as needed. This is a perfect example of relevancy and the importance of delivering the “right message at the right time through the right media to the right person”.  It is crucial for the print and marketing industry to provide the right strategy for the marketing needs of each and every client.

“To succeed to today, don’t repeat success; move on to other things that apply to that customer.” – David Robidoux

PIP Triad Meet & Greet…

We want to take time this week to introduce the proud owners of PIP Triad…

Jimmy and JudyJimmy & Judy Brumley

Jimmy and wife, Judy, Brumley have successfully owned and operated PIP’s Burlington location for 30 years to date! Together, this dynamic duo leads one of PIP Printing and Marketing Services’ strongest teams.

Married for 31 years, the Brumleys share a son, Jimbo, and a daughter, Megan… and a soon-to-be son-in-law, David. Outside of running a business and interacting with customers, Jimmy and Judy enjoy long hikes through the Blue Ridge Mountains when they get the chance.

Nothing can put a smile on Jimmy’s face quicker than Appalachian State football in the fall when he can watch the games and tailgate with his family and friends. Judy cherishes her quiet mountain escape with family.

Both Jimmy and Judy have been presented with multiple awards throughout their ownership of the PIP Burlington Franchise, most recently recognized as a Finalist (PIP Burlington) for the Sales Forum 2013 Application Innovation Awards (AIA) with a project for the Alamance County Arts Council, and were awarded the 2013 Application Innovation Award for a Greensboro Day School project. And the past spring, Judy recieved the 2012 Top Performer Gold Level Award for Sales Excellence at the 2013 Sales Forum event by Franchise Services.

The Brumleys couldn’t be more excited about our recent acquisition of the Greensboro PIP Store in May 2013, finding enjoyment in helping surrounding businesses, institutions and non-profit organizations grow… “Good things to come!
